Why can music change your moods?

how come music can change or enhance your moods? Does this happen to everyone? Why can music change your moods?
Yes, it does happen to everyone. The type of music you listen to would have influence on your moods for sure. That is why experts suggest drivers to play soft music in their vehicles as that would lessen their reaction rate which in turn would avoid accidents and road rages.

Listening to soft music during stress helps to calm down the nerves.

It has been proved that brain areas involved in listening to music are the same as those involved in other pleasurable activities, like eating chocolate or winning a bet.

The affect of music on hormone levels in the human body can also be quantified, and there is definite evidence that music can lower levels of cortisol in the body (associated with arousal and stress), and raise levels of melatonin (which can induce sleep). It can also precipitate the release of endorphins, the body's natural painkiller. Why can music change your moods?
Everything has a chemical reaction to your brain from your senses. Eyes - Color, Ears - Sound, Touch - feelings, Taste - foods. Etc. It's just how your internal brain reacts to external things.
I sing music with a barbershop chorus. Once a week we rehearse for 2 1/2 hours. When we're done, we're exhausted but exhilarated! It's good exercise, it really helps our breathing, and it's just plain fun to sing barbershop chords to create a special kind of harmony you won't find anywhere else! I can go there feeling tired or a little down...and after singing with 70 friends I feel ready-to-go and ';up.';

I don't know if it happens to everyone, but I'm pretty sure it happens to the 70,000 men and women around the world who sing barbershop music! -- Dr. Bob
yes this happens to anyone different music have different emotions to them and te lyrics have something to do with it as well because if you listen to certain lyrics then you actually feel like you the person or your there with what trhe lyrocs are sum songs make you wanna dance sum songs make you wanna cry but u must no your self and how you react to different kinds of music first then you begin yto understand how othere ppl do i am taking gcse music and we learnt about and i think music is really clever on how it helps ppl like sum ppl make love to certain music sum purpose some have fights its just the way the brain reeacts with them
music is something magical. music comes from the heart . it's pleasant whether rocking ones also. when u listen to music u just get into it %26amp; u forget everything
I've actually studied this with a published psychologist PHD.

We think (alright, he didn't exactly say he thought I was right but he did say a polite maybe...), that stimulation alone makes people happy because of conditioning.

It inherently feels good to be able to predict anything. Anything at all that is predictable (if not too unpleasant) becomes a comfort.

But, the reverse, when it does not result in punishment (as so often failure to correctly predict future events does in real life) is also a form of reward for behavior (listening is a behavior).

So, we try to make sense of sound. And we predict what it will do. We must because as creatures we inherently are better prepared for life if we screen out the mundane. You must concentrate to be aware of the sound of the fan blowing air during a conversation, because it is biologically successful to have this ability of discrimination.

Being rewarded for success in this is to have better, uncluttered memories (and explains why women don't recall what men do as biologically different things are vital to function in different roles inherent of the genders).

I think this is why men are more paranoid, about different types o threatening noises. We tend to look for signs of the rhino romping hrough the grass (or busting through the hedgerows), unconciously of course.

When a person of a certain makeup hears a bad note, however, it is actually painful.
Theres a section in everyone's brain that registers music, which brings your mood up.. and/or down so yes.. this probably happens to everyone =)
yes it can bring you up or down

dunno why exactly
since hearing is a sense you can be turned on, turned off, aggravated, sadden, and some one said once hungry by the type of music you listen too. ever wonder why people listen to crazy music when they are angry.. they want to either stay angry or become more aggravated. and vise veras
